I've wanted to paint a relationship between a pure white birch and a red-burning pine, standing calmly in harmony beside each other in the late setting sun for a while now.
And I think of this painting as such a first attempt. Unfortunately, my search for that pair of trees didn't work out, I jumped headfirst into this painting despite the fact that I had almost wasted my whole "sunny account" on searching for the right place.
Back to the pair... there is one already. I would almost argue that they grow from common roots, like brothers and yet they are opposites to each other. But to make things difficult, it's right by the highway, so I admire them only from a car and wonder if I will ever found another couple as beautiful as this one.
