The craving to plein-air bubbled inside. I badly needed to paint that spring brightness as well as to brightenen up my mind with that range of forgotten tones of greens and yellows.

The first attempt was thrown to the ground with failure, but I was already pulling the next one with a much better vision of how to capture it better and more shrewdly this time. The brush strokes were strong like punches . . . tubes of cadmium yellow and titanium white were getting smaller and emptier with the thicking and ripening of the painting.

Looking back at it, I can't take my eyes off any brush stroke. They're all so fresh and full of energy that I gave to every single one of them.
