Who is the Observer?
I thought I had derived the name from that crouching figure who's looking into the deep water. Gradually, as I finished the painting, I understood that all along the Observer had been none other than myself.
Because I painted this painting in my studio, I had the opportunity to truly express my whole intention, which is sometimes not easy to get to in plein air. I observed the theory and relationships of colour, their meaning in the painting. I watched how it affects me and what I am able to accomplish.
